From the acclaimed Amsterdam based Twilight Circus Dub Sound System is
the new release "Horsie" - an outstanding set of 10 groundbreaking
tracks exploring new directions in dub, postrock and electronica.
Dub is the "original remix" - a revolutionary and incredibly influential
style of mixing, invented in 70's Jamaica by King Tubby, in which the
recording studio engineer literally 'plays' the studio and recorded
parts on the master tapes - actively using the mixing desk controls and
studio apparatus as an instrument, manipulating sounds, adding echoes
and reverb effects, dropping instrumental and vocal tracks in and out,
to create a totally new song out of an existing piece of recorded
music.
The techniques, ideas and sounds of dub mixing have heavily influenced
modern record production styles in almost all forms of popular music.
Dub's influence is particularily strong in the world of dance music.
Since its inception in 1995, the Twilight Circus Dub Sound System has
quickly become known as one of the most innovative and original dub
outfits in the world! With a consistent output of critically acclaimed
, high quality releases (5 cds /2 vinyl) and hundreds of live shows
worldwide (featuring bone-shaking live dub, surreal performance art and
occasional guests like sword swallower/fire breather extraordinaire
Istvan Noumenon from Cirque Du Soleil, Mark Spybey of DVOA, and Cevin
key from Download / Skinny Puppy), Twilight Circus has gained the attention
of numerous music fans and also the support of top sound systems and
djs
alike including NYC illbient dj - DJ Spooky, U.K. dj Mixmaster
Morris, and many more who are playing Twilight Circus out in their live sets.
Twilight Circus Dub Sound System ringmaster, multi-instrumentalist and
engineer/producer, Ryan Moore was heavily influenced by dub at the
start of his musical career in Vancouver, Canada in 1981. His first recorded
experiments with dub took place in the early 80's. Ryan Moore is a
veteran of the alternative music scene, has worked with artists like
Skinny Puppy, Download, Single Gun Theory, and appears on over 50 cd productions with various artists. He is currently a
member of underground legends The Legendary Pink Dots and The Tear Garden.
Twilight Circus Dub Sound System recently completed a highly
successful 36 date tour in the U.S.A. and Canada - the third North American
concert tour so far for TCDSS. The Twilight Circus Dub Sound System has toured
extensively thoughout Europe and further European concerts in support
of "Horsie" are scheduled for Spring 1999. US/Canadian tour dates are
planned for late 1999.
The recordings of the Twilight Circus Dub Sound System are made almost
entirely with live instrumentation and use no programming or computer
sequencing - the few samples or loops are played live and "on the fly"
to the multi track. Deep dub that's rooted in the tradition and full of
